Celler Comunica - Vinya Goretti 2013

Celler Comunica is located in Falset, Montsant, just next door to Priorat. The duo Pep Aguilar - Patri Morillo is behind this operation. Who they are? Have a look to this video made by the thrilling wineshop L'Orangette in Reus (here).

They started their career working for a number of cellars in Priorat and then established a winemaking consultancy business known as “ya le llamaremos” (“we’ll call you”). In 2010 they started their own wine label 'Comunica' in DO Montsant, being hosted -at that time- at Celler Pascona. Finally, in 2014 they moved to a new place -Mas d’en Cosme- in Falset and expanded their offer with some new entry wine (including a natural grenache 'Fristyle') and completely redesigning the labels from the funny ones you have seen in the video to the more classic ones you can see in the pictures below.

Today they manage 7 hectares of 25–75 years-old vineyards in the DO Montsant with a portfolio of 5 red wines (no whites are produced). All wines are made using indigenous yeasts and no oak barrels. It is indeed their strong belief that oak is a maquillage to be avoided in order to show the pure traits of the native Terroir.

Vinya Goretti 2013 (4.2/5)

This was previously branded as Celler Comunica Samso'. The new label is simple and classic and puts stress on the Terroir concept by highlighting the name of the vineyard (Vinya Goretti, in the village of Marçà).

The wine appears deep ruby/purple with good tears. On the nose it's clean offering, with med+ intensity, highly pitched notes of cherries, brambles and currants (for some aspects similar to few Chilean Carignans I have tasted from the 'Vigno' Project), black spices, flint and slate minerals and some liquorice/earthy hints.

On the palate is dry, with med+ acidity, medium tannins, medium alcohol, medium+ body with good concentration of flavours on the mid-palate and good grip supporting a med+ finish. This is very well made and it delivers great balance, freshness and joyful vitality. Great with food.

Very good quality, High Price, Drink Now or in the next 5-10 years. 100% old-vines Samso' from argilocalcari i pissarra soils, Falset, Montsant, Spain.
