Castello dei Rampolla Sammarco 2007 (4.7/5)

Notes: Deep purple with good legs. This vintage is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and this is reflected on the nose full of blackberries and currants, some green bell pepper, there are notes of cedar and spices, some leather developing. But then the savoury/earthy Tuscan character comes along as the wine opens up in the glass. Thrilling minerality with pencil shavings hints.
On the palate is dry, with great acidity and wonderful tannic structure that, together with the vibrant fruit, create a tactile tension. This needs still few years to fully relax and showing its nobility. Med+ alcohol, full body and long finish. This is one of the few great "Super Tuscans" that are able to strikingly express their own Terroir.
Outstanding quality, Better to drink it in few years (if you can be patient), it has an ageing potential of much more than a decade. Premium Price. Blend 90-5-5 Cab. Sauvignon, Sangiovese, Merlot, Greve in Chianti, Tuscany IGT, Italy.
