Anthonij Rupert Optima 2010 (4.7/5)

It appears med+ ruby with a purple core and good legs. On the nose it's clean offering medium+ intensity of plums reduction, blackberries, hematic mineral notes, loamy soil, tobacco and sweet spices, cocoa and lightly toasted coffee. So elegant and alluring I would have easily mistaken for a good Pomerol on a blind tasting. There is also some mint/nettle notes coming back on the end.

On the palate is dry, with medium+ acidity, with smooth supple seductive tannins, medium alcohol, medium+ body with good concentration on the mid palate and good flavor intensity. Med+ finish. This is a beauty and its elegance, restrained alcohol levels and good acidity make it extremely food friendly.

Outstanding quality, Drink Now but will keep developing for 5-10 years, Premium Price but very good quality/price ratio.  Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Western Cape, South Africa.

P.S. On day 2 the wine is still evolving and if a earthy nose of Cab. Franc and Merlot was dominant on day 1, now on day 2 a cool Cab. Sauvignon is prevailing with fresh notes of cassis, violets and tobacco. This is really good stuff!
