A Walk Along The Russian River

Ah ah :-) OK... this was the title of the issue no. 25 of AirBoy comics back in 1987... :-)

I had the pleasure to visit Sonoma County just few months ago. What a place! It seems suspended in time...away from the huge wine tourism that invests Napa every year...full of little farmers markets...amazing wild coastline...let's come to three wines I brought back with me from this trip...

2012 Kistler Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (4.1/5)

Clear, med/med+ ruby, good legs. On the nose it's clean, med+ intensity, developing notes of cranberries cherries and spices with some hint of sweet herbs. The palate is dry, med/med+ acidity, super smooth with med- tannins, med+ alcohol, med/med+ body, med+ flavor intensity. Medium length. Very good quality, not impressive bit of lack of personality. Premium price. Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast, California, USA.

2011 Kosta-Browne Russian River Pinot Noir (4.5/5)

Clear, med+ ruby purple, good legs. On the nose it's clean, medium intensity (more muted than the perfumed Kistler), developing notes of straw, dark cherries, smoke, mushrooms and cola. Definitely much more complex than Kistler. The palate is dry, medium acidity, chewy med- tannins, med+ alcohol, med+ body, med+ flavor intensity. Medium+ length. Very good quality. Premium price. Pinot Noir, Russian River, California, USA.

2009 Moshin Vineyards Morris Ranch Pinot Noir (4.3/5)

Clear, med ruby purple, very good legs. On the nose it's clean, medium intensity, developing notes of sweet strawberries and cherries, iodine salty notes, there is a very interesting fresh brine character that counterbalance the huge ~16% alcohol, some earthy notes. Overall very interesting! The palate is dry, medium acidity, chewy med- tannins, high alcohol, med+ body, med+ flavor intensity. Medium+ length. Very good quality. It play on the edge of balance but definitely has character! High to premium price. Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast, California, USA.
