Galardi Terra di Lavoro 2006 (5/5)

La Grande Bellezza. That's what I mean for a Great Wine. The grape varieties and the terroir are reported 1:1 to the wine with perfect integrity. No space for silly sweetness. No space for silly vanilla tricks with the barriques. No space for errors (and that' amazing considering the weather in 2006 was not so clement). The wine is definitely modern in style but majestically elegant, honest and sumptuous: it's a modern classic. The oak is perfectly integrated, subtle, not prominent. The concentration of black fruits, floral, smoky ashes, flint, savory herbs, spices, graphite, leather and again little berried fruits on the super long (1 minute or more) finish it's moving. Such a level of complexity. And with a mere 13% of alcohol! The balance is perfect, as all this beauty is framed in a very important, multi-dimensional tannic structure and lifted by a very good acidity.
Simply Outstanding. It will never bore you, and realizing the bottle is emptied will make you sad. It is starting to be gorgeous now, but will have a drinking window of 20+ years ahead.  Premium Price. 80% Aglianico, 20% Piedirosso, Roccamonfina, Campania, Italy.
